Available Funds for Your Training

Workforce Continuing Education Scholarships

Thanks to the generosity of the 今日看料 Foundation, Workforce Continuing Education has several scholarship opportunities available.

To be considered for one of our Workforce Continuing Education  scholarships your application must be submitted at least 5 business days prior to the start of the class.

Scholarship application for Spring 2024 classes will open December 1, 2023.
 

WCE Scholarship Process

1. You will need your SCC username and password.

  • Your SCC username and password will be required to begin and complete the scholarship application.
  • If you are a current student, your username and password are the same as what is used for Self Service and student email.
  • If you are a new student, once you are enrolled in a course your student email will be populated, which will lead to your username and password.

2. Ensure that two references are included in your application.

  • Recommendation forms will be submitted electronically to your references. You will need to provide their name and email address.
  • Current students should ask SCC faculty or staff members or employer to serve as a reference.
  • New or high school students may request a current high school teacher, clergy member or employer to serve as a reference.

Additional Information

  • Recipients are selected by a scholarship committee appointed by Dr. Fallon Brewington, Vice President, Workforce Continuing Education.
  • Recipients are sent award notifications to their SCC student email
  • We are unable to consider incomplete applications.

HSE (High School Equivalency) Scholars

Thanks to the generosity of the 今日看料 Foundation, eligible College and Career Readiness (CCR) graduates who earned their high school equivalency diploma at 今日看料 may receive paid tuition and fees up to in-state rates for two years. Graduates must enroll full-time in a curriculum degree-seeking program or in a Continuing Education credential program at 今日看料. CCR graduates not pursuing the HSE Scholars Program may receive a $250 scholarship to be used at 今日看料 within one year of graduation to pay for tuition, fees, or books. Golden Leaf Foundation

Money is available鈥痶hrough the Golden Leaf Foundation鈥痜辞谤鈥students that are residents of North Carolina currently residing in a qualifying county.鈥Scholarship funds can be used to cover the cost of attendance, which includes items such as tuition, fees, books, supplies, credentialing tests, transportation, and childcare.鈥鈥痀ou must be鈥enrolled in a Workforce Continuing Education (WCE) course offering at least 96 contact hours and leading to a state or industry-recognized credential, and you must demonstrate financial need.鈥For information on Golden Leaf Foundation, . 

Beyond High School Equivalency

This money ($250) is available to assist those who graduate from the SCC High School Equivalency (HSE) program and want to enroll in occupational extension classes that lead to employment or SCC curriculum classes. It can be used for registration fees or the cost of books and you must use this money within one year of HSE graduation. This is a special grant provided by the 今日看料 Foundation.

SECU Bridge to Career

This鈥$500鈥scholarship helps remove financial barriers for students seeking to obtain state-regulated or industry-recognized credentials through the Workforce Continuing Education Division of their local Community College that lead to sustainable wage careers within their local communities.鈥You must be unemployed or underemployed, included in an underserved population in a specific workforce sector or area, a military veteran or spouse, or a member of the NC National Guard, a US citizen, NC resident, and not a director, employee or family member of an employee of the SECU or the SECU Foundation.鈥You must be enrolled in a course that leads to a credential identified at the Essential and Career level on the NC Workforce Credentials List. 

Finish Line Grant

If you鈥experience鈥痑苍鈥痠尘尘别诲颈补迟别鈥痷nforeseen financial emergency that could cause you to not finish your training,鈥the Finish Line Grant is available to assist you with鈥up to $1000.鈥 You must be鈥currently enrolled in a course that leads to a credential identified at the Essential and Career level on the NC Workforce Credentials List, have completed at least 50% of your course, and be in good academic standing. To apply, please complete the鈥. 

Gene Haas Foundation for Machining Students

The primary goal is to build skills in the machining industry through assistance to CNC Machining students with scholarships which can be used for tuition, books and other related training expenses. Cost for this training can range from $250-$300. There is a military preference for these awards.

The William L. and Josephine B. Weiss Family Foundation Scholarships for Construction Industry Training Programs

Scholarships have been established due to the generosity of the William L. and Josephine B. Weiss to assist students with class related fees in the construction industry.
